DEVELOPING A HEARING EAR
From the book, Hearing God by Peter Lord
There are three steps to this process:
- Make a deliberate choice and effort to set your mind on God. Ask for His help if you think you have an undisciplined mind.
- Make a deliberate choice to exercise your mind by focusing on God. The best way to do this is to have a regular time to pursue this intensely. Like any other form of exercise, begin at a low level and increase gradually.
- Carry this exercise of setting your mind on God into every area of life. Do it by determining to consciously bring every thought captive to God and immediately turning to God in all circumstances. After a while it will become a spontaneous action, a natural reflex developed through habit.
Paul tells us in Romans 8 that God’s children are led by His Spirit, if the Spirit of God really lives in them. “But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him”(verse 9).We must hear God if we are to live by the Spirit as sons and daughters of God (see verse 14).
